The Helm Computer Desk
A traditional arrangement that progressed naturally into one of our own, The Helm has emerged as one of our proudest designs. While the back legs are completely perpendicular to the ground, the front legs are angled toward the desk’s back for cockpit-like feeling. Unlike most of Parkman Woodworks' creations, the surface is set within the frame, cradled by 2" x 1" rectangular steel.
We initially built the entire frame from hollow tube, but it felt a bit unsubstantial so we replaced the floor runners with solid steel, giving it a weight more fitting to the task. The legs are locked together in three places, the front apron, back apron and lower cross-bar, the latter of which provides a footrest when you're in need of a break.
This piece is also available as an L-shaped desk if you're in need of a larger command station.
